The area

Saly, Mbour and the Petite Côte — practical geography

Saly-Portudal is Senegal's top beach resort: all-inclusive hotels, poolside residences, beach restaurants, craft shops. The village stretches along 5 km of coastline. Ngaparou (between Saly and Somone) is quieter, popular with expats and surfers.

Mbour, 5 km south of Saly, is an authentic Senegalese town of 250,000 people. Its fish market is the most spectacular on the Petite Côte (pirogues return around 4 pm). The Saly–Mbour road is smooth (10 minutes).

The main roads in the area are paved and in good condition. Only excursions towards the Sine Saloum, Palmarin and Djifer take you off tarmac. Total and Shell petrol stations in Saly and Mbour — no difficulty refuelling.
