Collecting your vehicle in Almadies
Almadies, Ngor and Yoff make up the western tip of Dakar — a coastal neighbourhood with seaside restaurants and upmarket residences. This guide helps you find your way around the area. Senoto is a marketplace: your independent partner coordinates the time and place of the handover directly with you.
How to collect your vehicle
- 1Arrange the meeting with your partner
Your partner will contact you directly on WhatsApp to agree on the exact place and time for the vehicle handover. Senoto connects you: the handover itself is coordinated between you and the independent partner.
- 2Pick a quiet time slot
The area is calmer in the morning (before 10:00) and in the evening (after 18:00). In the afternoon, the Almadies road is busier (people heading back from the beach). At weekends, traffic flows well all day.
- 3Prepare your documents
Driving licence, photo ID, Senoto booking confirmation, means of payment for the deposit. The contract is in French.
- 4Check the vehicle before driving off
Walk around the vehicle (four sides, interior, mileage, fuel level) and take your own dated photos. The residential streets of Almadies are reasonably lit for this check, even in the evening.
- 5Get your bearings before driving off
Almadies is a geographical dead-end (tip of the peninsula). To leave the neighbourhood, a single main road leads up to the VDN. Take 5 minutes to spot the exit on Google Maps.
The Almadies / Ngor / Yoff area
- The Almadies headland is the westernmost point of the African continent. The beaches of Ngor and Ngor Island (5 min by pirogue, 500 FCFA) are just minutes away.
- The restaurants on Route des Almadies (Chez Loutcha, Copacabana, La Calebasse) are handy landmarks for finding your way around.
- The area is residential and secure: embassies (France, USA), diplomatic residences, upmarket Airbnbs. Little traffic at night.
- Yoff (further north) is a traditional fishing village. The streets are narrow and unpaved in places — give a precise address if your accommodation is in Yoff.
- Ngor beach is known for surfing (right-hand break).
Local tips
- Street lighting on residential roads is uneven. In the evening, do the vehicle check under a street lamp or with your phone torch.
- Parking is free and unrestricted in the residential area. No informal car park attendants in Almadies (unlike Plateau).
- To reach the motorway from Almadies, follow the Ngor road towards the VDN. Allow 20 minutes to the interchange outside rush hour.
Nearby places worth knowing
- Ngor Island: 5 min by pirogue from Ngor beach. No cars on the island — leave the vehicle in the car park opposite the pier.
- African Renaissance Monument: 10 min away by car (Ouakam). Panoramic view over Dakar.
- Phare des Mamelles: the oldest lighthouse in West Africa (1864). The road is steep but a city car can manage it.
- Yoff market: fruit, fresh fish, crafts. Park on the main road and walk 2 min.
- Sea Plaza shopping centre: 15 min towards Plateau. Free underground car park, cinema, supermarket.
